The Compton Family: Birthdays Galore!!!!

February, March and April are very busy birthday months in the Schirmer family. This year, we celebrated some major milestones!

In February, we celebrated Terry's birthday, my birthday and Dad's birthday. We celebrated my birthday and Terry's birthday together since they are just a few days apart. We also celebrated my birthday and Dad's birthday together since they are also only a few days apart. Derek came home from school for the weekend and we went to The Cheesecake Factory! Our food was delicious as usual and the company was even better! It was really wonderful celebrating my birthday with Jace this year.

Grandpa Schirmer turned 90 this year on March 13! We had a big celebration for him at The Living Community in St. Joseph. He was pretty tickled to see all of the decorations, family and friends for his party. We had his very favorite lunch- Stroud's and dessert- cake & ICE CREAM! We had a really nice time and I think he enjoyed himself a lot.

On March 20, we celebrated mom's 50th birthday!!!! Derek and I hosted a party for her in our new house to celebrate the big occasion. We had a really great time, and a really great turn-out! Mindy and the boys, Aunt Ann & Uncle Dan, and Grandma Wilson were able to attend and that made it really special for Mom. She is the best Mom anyone could ask for, and I hope she hope she knows how much she means to all of us. We love you, Mom!

My favorite brother turned 21 this year!!!! It fell on a Monday, so we all went to Kirksville to help him celebrate. We had lots of fun playing games Sunday evening at the Bed & Breakfast we stayed in. At 12:01 am, Dad and Derek went to find a gas station of some kind so he could buy his first (legal) drink! This didn't quite work out as planned because Kirksville stops selling beer at midnight! I think Derek was a little disappointed, but we made up for it on Monday!

After Derek's morning classes, we met up for lunch at the Wooden Nickel. Mom and Dad bought Derek his first beer, which he seemed to like pretty well. And then the real fun began. I took my innocent brother to the bar side of the restaurant to buy him his first shot! When the bartender/owner found out it was his 21st Birthday, he took things into his own hands. He poured several different liquors into a glass and then proceeded to light it on fire! The bartender told Derek that he had to drink it all through a straw at once, or he would have to do it again!

Like a champ, Derek drank the entire glass at once....and then proceeded back to his dorm room for a nap!
